The Moroccan Kingdom’s capital and imperial city Rabat exudes a serene and uplifting atmosphere. Wherever you go the scent of orange blossoms seems to drift through the air especially at the beautiful Andalusion Gardens near the Kasbah. With a rich amber hued landscape dotted with trees beautifully framed by waters as blue as the skies, the elegant coastal city artfully blends its ancient history with modern culture.
The calm beauty of the old town will surely seduce you with its alleys and white houses, although the new part of the city, Ville Nouvelle, has beautiful modern French-built hotels as well as standard chain hotels and is indeed very charming with its wide avenues, lovely cafes and marvellous Moroccan and French restaurants. Alternative accommodation options include villas, self-catering cottages and studio apartments. The Medina offers a number of excellent restaurants, clubs and pubs or for a change of scenery have a meal at the seaside seafood restaurants.
Rabat’s museums and cultural sites such as the impressive Hassan Tower, the grand Mohammed V Mausoleum, interesting Archaeological Museum and astounding Kings Palace are all well worth a visit. The stunning Andalusion Gardens is a wonderful spot to relax whilst absorbing the fragrant smells of the citrus trees. A trip to the Citadel of Chellah with its Roman ruins dating from 200 BC is not to be missed. Walk along the promenades offering awesome ocean views, play a round of golf at the nearby course, laze on the beach or venture more south of Rabat for fantastic surfing conditions. Rabat is mesmerizing, modern yet rich in history behind its stone and white-washed walls, and will capture your heart with its amazing ambiance and dazzling sights.
